Crime Prevention Safety Tips |
|
In order to make TCU a safer community, the Police Department asks that you practice the following crime prevention techniques:
To report a police, fire, or medical emergency, or to report a crime in progress, dial 911 from any campus telephone (except "blue light" phones).
While on campus at night, use the "buddy" system. There is safety in numbers. If you find that you must go somewhere on campus by yourself, call the police department for an escort.
During hours of darkness, walk along lighted pathways. Stay on the lighted paths. These designated sidewalks are well lighted with sodium vapor lights and patrolled frequently by members of the Police Department.
Alarm your vehicle to discourage would-be thieves from breaking into your automobile.
If you live in Residence Halls, do not bring valuable jewelry to campus. The department recommends that you bring inexpensive costume jewelry to wear instead of the expensive kind.
Lock the door to your dorm room, even if you're only going to be out of the room for "a few minutes". Keep your room door locked while you're inside and asleep.
Participate in "Operation Identification." By participating in this program and marking all of your valuable items with an electric engraver, you discourage theft because the items are marked and are easily identifiable.
When you see something suspicious, get the University Police involved by calling 7777 on campus or 257-7777 off campus. Let us know what you saw or heard. If possible, be able to describe the person that is suspicious and what activity they were doing which caused you to become concerned.
If you are a faculty or staff member, keep your purse or wallet out of sight, preferably locked in a desk drawer.
The officers of the TCU Police Department patrol the campus buildings and sidewalks on foot and bicycle, and also patrol the roadways and parking lots in marked patrol vehicles, on bicycles and, at times, on foot. High visibility of police cars and uniformed police officers deters most criminals. However, we cannot do it all. Your assistance is needed to make this community as safe a campus as possible.
If you practice the crime prevention tips mentioned above, there is a very good chance that we can prevent crime together!
