                                                      TCU Sexual Assault Policy

TCU will not tolerate rape, acquaintance rape, or sexual assault as defined under the Texas Penal Code. Such offenses are taken very seriously at TCU and are violations of The Code of Student Conduct and Texas State law. Victims are strongly urged to report such incidents to the TCU Police, the dean of Campus Life, or the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Either office will assist the student in obtaining needed physical and emotional aid. Confidentiality is assured. The victim has the option, if desired, of seeking on-campus disciplinary actions within the University judicial system if the alleged assailant is a TCU student. The judicial process would include, but may not be limited to, giving a statement to a University official. A student adjudicated "in violation" will be subject to disciplinary sanctions which range from warning to expulsion, and may also include required counseling. If there is a need to change academic and/or living situations after a sexual assault incident, the victim may request the Dean of Campus Life to coordinate such arrangements.

The Student Development Services Office maintains resource materials, books and videos; and trains facilitators to present workshops on acquaintance rape, its prevalence in college communities, and the societal attitudes and myths that allow rape to be so prevalent. For information and additional resources, or to schedule a workshop, contact Barbara Brown Herman, Ph.D., Director of Student Development Services, 257-7855.

If you are a victim of a sexual assault on campus, call the TCU Police as soon as possible. If the assault occurs off campus, call the local authorities (9-1-1). If an assault occurs, don't change clothes or take a bath or shower. All physical evidence, including seminal fluids, hair, blood types, and scrapings of flesh from the victim's nails may be used in court.

You have the option of notifying police and/or contacting counselors who will assist you in making notifications. Victims can avail themselves of various professional referral programs located on campus. Other private organizations can be identified upon request. Students should refer to the Student Handbook for more information. Employees should refer to the Employee Handbook for further details.

The University will, if reasonably available, change the academic/living situation of a victim after an alleged sexual offense. Procedures for campus disciplinary action in cases of alleged sex offenses can be found in the above-mentioned handbooks.
